Smart Moms was founded by Michelle Yanik and Garla Smith in July 2003, to provide administrative services to small businesses using a workforce of stay-at-home moms.  The company's main office is in Cary, NC.  The niche online resource services clients in Cary, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and virtually.  The company has helped over 200 businesses find moms with professional skills who are committed to part-time, contract and virtual work opportunities that meet their lifestyle demands.

Garla Smith  

Along with her husband, Garla is raising two daughters and places high value on community involvement. She is active within her church and serves on the American Cancer Society’s Southeast Leadership Council as a Community Educator with local churches and schools.

Garla is a regular contributor on two web sites. She is a guest expert on susanireland.com, answering questions from moms seeking to return to the workforce. She also answers entrepreneurial questions from students on F4K.com the Future for Kids website.

Prior to co-founding Smart Moms, Garla was a Manufacturing Engineer and Documentations Specialist for Hewlett Packard and Applied Materials.  She received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and earned her MS in Mechanical Engineering (Concentration Manufacturing) from North Carolina A&T University. She has completed her Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Certification which enables her to provide standardized career development skills to her clients (specializing in women and students).  Assessments, Interviewing Strategies, Resume Writing and Career and Job internet research are areas in which she is trained.

Michelle Yanik                           
Ms. Yanik, has a strong customer service background refined during nine years of employment with a telecommunications service company. She held various positions throughout those years working closely with Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and associations. She also served as Public Relations and Marketing Manager.
